Our classroom at various stages throughout the year!
At MPES we are teaching students through the Reggio Inspired Teaching Philosophy. We allow children to learn the skills they will need to know for school and life, through play. We use the classroom environment, our outside environment, the community and each other to also teach the children. We try to have a welcoming and 'homey' feel to our classroom. We also try to inspire the students with art, interesting objects and pictures that are on display and accessible to the children in the classroom. Whenever possible we try to include natural elements of nature into the classroom, evening bringing in live elements like plants and 'pets'. The idea is to have more open-ended elements in the classroom that will allow them to explore, feel relaxed and encouraged. We often use more student created items or "homemade" items than purchased/produced materials in the classroom so that children feel that their work is valued and not everything has to be 'cookie cutter' perfect. Whenever possible we work with the children to create and maintain our classroom.
